Introduction
Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections to all households in rural India. The program will also implement source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through greywater management, water conservation, and rainwater harvesting. The Jal Jeevan Mission will be based on a community approach to water and will include extensive Information, Education, and Communication as key components of the mission. The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to create a “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement) for water, thereby making it everyone’s priority.
The Rural Water Supply Department is functioning in Satara Zilla Parishad. This department operates through grants received from the Central and State Governments. The primary objective is to provide clean and sufficient drinking water to all families. The target areas include villages, wadis, and habitation-wise rural areas. This initiative covers 11 talukas in the district.
Vision
Every rural household has a drinking water supply of adequate quantity and prescribed quality on a regular and long-term basis, provided at affordable service delivery charges, leading to an improvement in the living standards of rural communities.
Mission
Jal Jeevan Mission is to assist, empower and facilitate:
- Planning of participatory rural water supply strategy for ensuring potable drinking water security on a long-term basis to every rural household and public institution, viz. GP building, School, Anganwadi centre, Health centre, wellness centres, etc.

According to this, water will be provided to all households in rural areas as “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” (FHTC Functional Tap Connection) by 2025.
- Government is committed to supply, The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide at least 55 liters of quality water per day per person through individual tap connections to every household in the rural areas of the district by the year 2025. The plan will be designed according to the population of the next 30 years.
