Kaas Lake and Bamnoli
27 km west of Satara, via Yavateshwar, at 1430 meters above sea level, lies the Kaas Plateau. This lake has numerous natural springs, providing a year-round water supply. Water from this lake is supplied to the city of Satara. The plateau hosts trees like Jambul, Karvanda, Jackfruit, Mango, Hirda, and many rare medicinal plants. Just 12 km from Kaas is Bamnoli, a favorite spot for nature lovers and excellent for boating.

Thoseghar Falls
Thoseghar is a significant tourist spot due to its waterfalls and lush surroundings. The main waterfall here plunges 600 feet into a valley, offering a thrilling view. To prevent accidents, an observation gallery and protective railings have been set up.
Chalkewadi and Vankuswade
Satara district is known as the Energy District due to the wind energy projects on the Chalkewadi and Vankuswade plateaus. Wind turbines on 50-meter-high towers harness kinetic wind energy to generate electricity. This is Asia’s largest wind energy project, producing 313 megawatts of power through 857 wind turbines.
Kshetra Mahuli
A sacred area at the confluence of the Krishna and Venna rivers. The Krishna River flows through the village, dividing it into Shree Kshetra Mahuli and Sangam Mahuli. It houses the tomb of Shrimant Shahu Maharaj and famous temples like Yavateshwar, Mangalagauri, Radha Shankar, Bilveshwar, and Rameshwar. It is also the birthplace of renowned judge Ramshastri Prabhune.
Yavateshwar
In a picturesque area stands a Hemadpanthi Shiva temple. The hill’s elevation is 1230 meters above sea level. On the northern slope, there’s the Bhairav temple, known as Pedhyacha Bhairava.
Pateshwar
Located 7 miles southeast of Satara, Pateshwar is famous for its Mahadev temple, monasteries, caves, and statues. It was built by Peshwa-era merchant Parshuram Narayan Anghal.
Sajjangad (Rajgad)
This fort is sanctified by the residence of Samarth Ramdas Swami and houses his tomb. The fort, formerly known as Parali, was captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1676. Due to Samarth’s residence, Parali was renamed Sajjangad.
Dhawadshi
Northwest of Satara lies Dhawadshi, which was gifted to Brahmendra Swami by Chhatrapati Shahu in 1928. Swami served as the royal guru to Chhatrapati Shahu and the Peshwas. The village is also associated with Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi.
Maradhe
The native village of B.S. Mardhekar. In 1709, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’s encampment was here. The village houses the grand stone structure of Siddhamrit Math.
Shivthar Ghal
The place where Samarth Ramdas wrote Dasbodh. It’s located near Varandha Ghat on the way to Mahad via Bhor.
Ajinkyatara
A significant fort in the southern part of Satara, Ajinkyatara, also known as Manglai Hill, was captured by Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj in 1698 and declared the capital of the Maratha state.
Char Bhinti
Near Ajinkyatara, Char Bhinti is a memorial to the freedom fighters of the 1857 uprising. The 30-foot-high pillar is surrounded by 10-foot walls and a small fortification. Statues of Rani Lakshmibai and Rangoba Bapuji Gupte are located here.
Old Palace
Built by Chhatrapati Pratapsingh Maharaj I, the Old Palace now houses the Pratapsingh High School run by the Zilla Parishad.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum
This museum houses rare historical artifacts, especially those used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his family.
Nataraja Temple
Built-in the South Indian style by Shamrao Shanbhag, this temple in Krishnanagar features a 4.5-foot statue of Nataraja.
Shree Kurneshwar Temple
Built by Krishnaji Chaskar, the brother-in-law of Bajirao I, in 1723. It features a natural Ganesha idol known as Kurneshwar.
Ayurvedic Pharmacy
Founded by Dr. Mo. Na. Agashe in 1926, this institution produces a range of Ayurvedic medicines.
Dhanani’s Garden Shahu Boarding
Established by Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil in 1924, the Shahu Boarding House encourages self-reliance and discipline among students.
Mahanubhav Math
Founded by Baba Motiwale in 1912, this monastery follows the monotheistic teachings of Shri Chakradhar Swami.

You can take a train to Satara station (Koyna Express from CST in Mumbai) and then take a bus or auto rickshaw from Satara railway station to Satara bus station. Then take a bus from Satara bus station to Bamnoli village.
