    Minor Irragation Department

In our country, 70% of farming depends on rainfall. However, due to the reduced rainfall and the delayed benefits of large water conservation projects to farmers, small irrigation works have gained significant importance. Small irrigation works, covering areas of 0 to 100 hectares, are completed in a short period, allowing farmers to benefit quickly. These typically include works like recharge ponds, village ponds, Kolhapur-style check dams, storage check dams, contour check dams, and storage reservoirs. Small irrigation works within the 0 to 100-hectare range are carried out by the district council under various government schemes. In Satara district, the district council has a small irrigation department, which oversees the works in 11 talukas. These projects are implemented through sub-divisions such as the small irrigation sub-division in Satara, Khatav, Phaltan, Karad, and the rural water supply sub-divisions in Koregaon, Wai, and Mahabaleshwar.
