    Health Department

Health is not just the absence of disease or disability, the World Health Organization defines health as complete physical, mental, and social well-being. With the goal of “Health for All,” the government has committed to achieving this objective, and over the past few years, efforts have been made by the state government to provide preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative health services to the public. Rural hospitals, primary health centers, and sub-centers have been established across the state to deliver health services to rural populations. Various programs under the National Health Campaign, such as tuberculosis control, leprosy eradication, and other initiatives, are also being emphasized. During the monsoon, preventive measures are being implemented to curb the spread of gastroenteritis, malaria, and other waterborne diseases. The following health programs are part of public health services:

    • National Family Welfare and Population Control Program to control the growing population.
    • National Reproductive and Child Health Program to support mothers and their newborns who face serious health challenges.
    • School Health Checkup Program for students in schools and ashram schools.
    • National Vector-borne Disease Control Program to control the spread of diseases caused by mosquitoes.
    • National Leprosy Eradication Program to free people from diseases that cause physical disabilities.
    • National Tuberculosis Control Program to control diseases that deteriorate human health.
    • National Blindness Control Program to eliminate blindness and its related issues.
    • Integrated Disease Surveillance Program to prevent and manage outbreaks of diseases caused by contaminated water and other sources.
    • National AIDS Control Program to combat sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS spread through contaminated blood.

Additionally, the National Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control Program addresses diseases like goiter caused by iodine deficiency. Birth, death, and marriage registrations are essential social and national needs, and while these are conducted at the village panchayat level, their oversight is done by the public health department.

For all these programs, the necessary medical and paramedical training is provided, and the department also plays a crucial role in spreading awareness about health-related issues through various media channels for public education.
