    Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK)

    • Date : 07/04/2016 -

The key objective of the RCH (Reproductive and Child Health) program is to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. This involves providing free services before, during, and after delivery, as well as ensuring all necessary services for newborns up to 30 days after birth. These measures significantly contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. While the institutional delivery rate in the state is 91%, about 60% to 70% of these deliveries occur in private hospitals.

However, many mothers undergoing delivery in government institutions often have to purchase medicines, undergo tests, procure surgical supplies for cesarean delivery, or arrange transportation when referred to higher facilities, posing financial strain and risking delays that may lead to maternal or infant deaths. To address this, per the guidelines the central government issued, the JananiShishuSurakshaKaryakram ensures that all pregnant women and newborns receive free services at public health institutions.
