Jawali Taluka
Jawali – The name “Jawali” is derived from the word “Jayavalli,” meaning a region of trees and creepers. The More family of Jawali is historically renowned, claiming descent from Emperor Chandragupta Maurya. Among them, Chandrarao More considered Shivaji Maharaj an enemy. From 1657, Shivaji Maharaj established control over this region.
Vasota Fort – Vasota Fort, also known as Vyaghra Gad, is one of the few forest forts in Maharashtra. It is located near the Shiv Sagar reservoir in Jawali taluka. The fort stands at an elevation of 3,700 feet above sea level. The last king of the Shilahara dynasty of Panhala, Bhoj II, built this fort in the latter half of the 12th century. Shivaji Maharaj later named it Vajragad.
Meruling Temple – Meruling is a pilgrimage site in Jawali taluka. Situated on Meruling mountain in the Sahyadri mountain range, the Meruling temple and Meruling village are picturesque and cool hill stations.
Bamnoli and Tapola – These scenic places are located on the banks of the Shiv Sagar reservoir. Since they are in proximity to Mahabaleshwar and have facilities like boating, they are rapidly developing as new tourist destinations.
