Administrative Setup

On 2nd October 1959, the Balwantrai Mehta Samiti was established by the Central Government for decentralization of power.

On 22nd June 1960, the Vasantrao Naik Samiti was established.

According to the recommendations of the Vasantrao Naik Samiti, on 1st May 1962, the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Act 1961 was approved. A three-tier system was implemented at the district level. At the district level, Zilla Parishads were established, at the taluka level, Panchayat Samitis were established, and at the village level, Gram Panchayats were established.
